MODULES | This unit is a module of: |
TEACHING MATERIALS | AULAWEB |
The module aims to provide the fundamentals of modeling and parametric modeling for architecture. Basic concepts are introduced to define the relationship between virtual model, representation and architecture.
Basic instructions of parametric modeling are introduced to allow the configuration of components for architecture, with emphasis on modeling of curved surfaces and the identification of parameters useful for structural optimization (Computation Architecture).
The module aims to provide students with the basic elements of parametric modeling and the ability to generate useful configurations for structural optimization.
Basic instructions of parametric modeling are introduced to allow the configuration of components for architecture, with emphasis on modeling of curved surfaces and the identification of parameters useful for structural optimization (Computation Architecture).
Teaching will consist of lectures and drawing practice.
Lessons summaries will be available in Italian and English. Foreign students will receive support in English during the lessons.
The final exam consists of discussion of the topics and presentation of the model produced by the student.
The module covers the following topics:
Geometry elements for architectural modeling
- Euclidean geometry and non-euclidean geometry
- Projective geometry and representation
- Topology, elastic transformation, morphing
- Mathematical curved surfaces and free form
- 2D tessellation: symmetries and Voronoj
- Ancient and contemporary proportions: from the golden section to fractals
- Platonic solids and semi-regular solids, starry and geodetic surfaces, 3D tessellation
- From modeling to realization: curved surfaces and patterns, types of parametric modelers and application architecture
- Examples of contemporary architecture
Parametric modeling applications (Rhinoceros, Grasshopper)
- Basic Exercises (extrusion, boolean, arrays, lines and surfaces)
- 2D and 3D tessellation: Voronoj and lists applications
- triangular panelization
- Pattern, Attractors and ImageSampler
- Starred surfaces and waffle
- Reticular structures
