The course provides the basic knowledge to understand the role of technology in architectural design illustrating a broad overview of traditional and contemporary architecture exploring: the qualitative behavior of resistant materials and basic structural concepts; the performance and characteristics of construction materials; the building as a system of elements and the mutual relations nship between the building and the environment scale.
The course aims to teach the methodological and operational foundations of architectural technology:
- The principles and rules of the design process;
- The availability and the responsible use of material resources;
- The impact of technology options on expressive and symbolic values.
The course takes place with lessons given by the teacher, with the help of some specialized seminars. If possible, considering the number of students, will be carried out site visits and / or practical activities
Topics are divided into the following teaching units
1 ) The constructive foundations
2 ) The building materials
3 ) Methodology and instruments of technological design
4 ) Constructive feature , functional and performance expected from the building system
