AIMS AND CONTENT

TEACHING METHODS

The lectures are organized in about 50 hours of theory. 

 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Flow in open channels. Uniform and steady flow in a channel. Normal flow depth. Friction losses. Steady flow in channels. The critical state. Critical flow depth. Subcritical and supercritical flow. Gradually varied flow. Flow profiles. Lateral inflow and outflow. Unsteady flow in channels: the kinematic and parabolic model. Tidal waves. Constant width estuaries. Weakly convergent estuaries.
