OVERVIEW

The course consists of 2,5 CFU corresponding to 20 hours of taught class. It allows students to acquire knowledge about the etiology and the pathogenesis of the major human pathologies on the basis of their molecular alterations/characteristics.

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is focused on specific pathologies as the result of molecular alterations, wtih particular attention to cancer and primary immunodeficiencies. In addition, it will analyze the methodological approaches aimed at clarifying the diseases' molecular pathogenesis and will take into consideration the most recent therapeutic strategies, including gene therapy.

Oral exam

ASSESSMENT METHODS

In the oral examination, the student is asked to answer three questions, characterized by increasing complexity: the first regards a general issue/topic; the second is focused on more specific details of an issue; the third one is intended to assess the student's capacity of correlating different issues.

FURTHER INFORMATION

At the end of the course, the student is asked to present a scientific work available in the literature regarding one of the course's topics. This oral presentation is performed together with all students and teachers of the course, in order to favour practice on the interpretation, evaluation, and report of current literature. The presentation also represents the final step of student's formation and can increase exam evaluation if judged positively.
