OVERVIEW

The knowledge of digestive physiology and its regulation allows an integrated vision of the human body, which is necessary to understand the importance of nutrition in maintaining health.

The course aims to train experts in the field of diet and nutrition

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course intends to provide the basic subjects required for student formation. Through this training course, the student will learn basic knowledge about the physiology of motor functions, secretions and absorption of human digestive tract,  the mechanisms of control of food homeostasis and metabolism in physiological and pathological conditions.

The students will have to demonstrate, during the final examination, that they have acquired the sufficient and necessary integrated vision of the mechanisms regulating human nutrition.

TEACHING METHODS

Teaching is divided into 10 hours of training activities that will take place in the classroom through frontal lessons. The attendance requirement is at least 75% of the lesson hours.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Nervous and hormonal control of digestive system functions.

Gastrointestinal signals, hormonal and neural mechanisms involved in regulating food intake.

Stress and metabolism.

Stress-related weight gain.

Notes on gut microbiota.

Notes on the psychoneuroendocrineimmunology network and the role of food.

Oral test or written Multiple Choice test .

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The assessment takes place only through the final exam which aims to ensure the effective acquisition by the student of the expected learning outcomes.

In order to pass the exam (vote of not less than 18/30) the student must demonstrate that:

- Know the principal topics

- Be able to reason by connecting the various topics,

- Demonstrate ability to transverse and critically deal with the required arguments;

- Adoption of appropriate terminology.
