OVERVIEW

The course analyses the functions of the sensory and motor systems and physiology of cardiovascular system.

The course will furnish to the students fundamental knowledge about the physiology of the sensory and motor systems and of the cardiovascular system.

TEACHING METHODS

Teaching consists of theoretical “frontal” lessons for a total of 20 hours (2 CFUs)

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Sensory systems: transduction  and coding

Somatic senses: touch, thermoception and pain

Motor Units, mechanisms of force graduation, force/length and force/velocity relation.

Fundamental of motor system. Spinal cord organization and control by cortex and brainstem. Muscle receptors and spinal reflexes. Voluntary movement at glance.

Blood and hemostasis.

Principles of hemodynamics.

Electrical activity of the heart and electrocardiography.

Mechanical events and heart cycle.

Blood pressure and wrist wave. Blood pressure measurement.

Microcirculation and venous return.

Control of the cardiovascular apparatus.

Circulation in special districts.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral interview.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will last 15-20 minutes. It is based on some questions concerning the various topics of the program. During the exam the teacher will evaluate the student's ability to report on the topics discussed in the lessons.
