The Department of Economics and Business Studies offers undergraduate programs that provide a solid preparation in the field of management, accounting, economics, law and quantitative studies.
The program of Business Administration introduces the basic notions and the main topics common to the business studies.
The course aims to provide first-year students with a common knowledge about the principles and logic of operating system systems. In particular, the nature and functions of businesses will be examined, examined in their business size as a unit of production of goods and services for the purpose of market exchange.
The program aims to provide first-year students with a solid knowledge of fundamentals characterising the management of an economic organization. Specifically, the focus will be on private firms, with a special attention to corporate dynamics and to the economic and financial effects of management operations. In this respect, issues regarding capital and income, profitability and financing will be studied.
Learning outcomes
• Knowledge and understanding: analysis and understanding of the fundamental corporate features, the role of companies in the economic context.
• Applied knowledge and understanding: understanding of the business dynamics, analysis of management operations, and preparation of financial statements.
• Making judgments: the main objective is to provide each student with the necessary tools to formulate an independent and personal judgment on the corporate dynamics, the profitability, and the economic and financial position.
• Communication: the ability to present and comment content and results of corporate dynamic and management operations with appropriate and specialized terminology.
• Learning ability: each student will be provided with the tools and skills to further analyze, also autonomously, specific issues related to the business field.

The teaching methods are based on face-to-face lectures integrated with in-class exercises. Further information is available on Aulaweb.
Lessons start in the first semester, 18th September.
Written exam focused both on theory and numerical exercises.
Format of questions for the theory test: open-ended questions, multiple choice questions (answer: number or sentences), true/false.
Sufficiency in both theory test and exercises is required to pass the exam (sufficiency: grade equal or higher than 18/30).
In case of failure, the written test can be sustained a maximum of two times during the winter and summer sessions.
During the first semester, two intermediate written tests could also be included. Intermediate tests cover both theory and numerical exercises. Sufficiency in the first test is needed to access the second test. Students that do not obtain sufficiency in the intermediate tests have to pass the entire written exam during the exam sessions.
The written exam assesses both theoretical and practical skills.
