To know and to handle oneself in a critical way regarding the main paradigms of sociological description of deviance and criminality, as well as social control dispositives.
The first part of the course will analyse the main theories on deviance and social control and develop a critical evaluation of academic ideas as translated into the real-world environment.
The second part of the course will concentrate on structure and working practices on deviance and control, focussing specifically on the migrant and homeless people cases.
Student will be encouraged to work together on group projects and to develop skills in critical reading and analysis on deviance and social control practices through classroom discussions of case studies.
