L'Ancien Régime et la naissance de la France moderne
The history of culture and literature of the Ancien Régime (1600-1789) constitutes a fundamental basis for understanding contemporary France. The birth and codification of literary genres, the consolidation of the unitary language, the advent of the absolute monarchy are the foundations on which the French identity was built.
At the end of the course the student knows the general lines of the history of literature, is able to read and understand texts in language and is started with the use of basic methods and tools of an analytical type, to interpret the works of the main authors, contextualizing them in the culture and in the historical period of reference.
Objectives and learning outcomes
Attendance and active participation in the proposed training activities (frontal lessons and online activities) and individual study will allow the student to:
- know the general lines of the development of the French culture of the Ancien Régime;
- know the general lines of the history of literature of the Ancien Régime;
- be able to read and understand short texts in French;
- use the basic methods and tools of an analytical type to interpret the works of the main authors;
- contextualize literary productions in the culture and historical period of reference;
- develop team work strategies.

Lectures with the support of digital technologies online on Teams LMS (link).
The teaching will include lectures that will be recorded for use also in asynchronous mode. The course materials and exercises will be carried out on the Aulaweb platform. Group activities are envisaged with peer to peer assessment and flipped classroom activities. The attendig to these online activities will be evaluated with up to points to the final score.
PROGRAM
The course will focus on the presentation of some aspects of the development of the French civilization of the Ancien Régime which are still present in contemporary French culture. The most important cultural elements that made up the specificity of French culture will be presented: the centralization of power and public life, the expansion of overseas France, the control of cultural production. Constant reference will be made to the reading of theoretical and literary texts.

Molière, Tartuffe (1669)
Marivaux, L'île des esclaves (1725)
Choderlos de Laclos, Les Liaisons dangereuses (1782)
All the presentations used during the lessons and other didactic material will be available on aulaweb. In general, the notes taken during the lessons and the material on aulaweb are sufficient for the preparation of the exam.
The manual is suggested as support text for students.

Written exam on IT support, in French, which will consist of a test (test) with closed and open questions and will include the analysis of a literary text of those explained in the classroom. The test is used to evaluate learning: A) of the concepts and basic information transmitted during the course or through the teaching material made available on Aulaweb or through the study of the manual, and (B) the ability to set up simple applications of these basic concepts and information, correctly interpreting literary examples, applying the concepts and information presented during lessons.
The exam in the form of a computer test with open and closed questions (true / false, multiple choice, etc.) aims to verify the effective acquisition of basic knowledge on the French culture and literature of the Ancien Régime and their identification in a text. The open questions will allow to evaluate the ability to apply the knowledge acquired for the analysis of a text.
