The course has the objective of providing the essential tools for analysis and optimization of energy systems. To this end, various methodological approaches will be introduced and discussed. The effectiveness of such approaches will be demonstrated via software exercises carried out in connection with simple case studies.
To provide the essential methodological tools for the statement and the solution of management and control problems relevant to energy and environmental systems. To provide an introduction to widespread and flexible software tools (such as, for instance, LINGO and MATLAB) for the solution of optimization and control problems, and for the simulation and performance analysis of the controlled dynamic systems.
The objective of the course is that of providing the essential methodological tools necessary for the statement and the solution of management and control problems of energy systems. Besides, software tools like MATLAB and LINGO will be introduced and used, during the course, for the solution of the considered problems, as well as for the simulation and analysis of the controlled systems. At the end of the course, the sudents will be able to represent energy systems as dynamic models and to state and solve control and optimization problems for such systems.
Mathematical analysis (standard level). Basic knowledge of system theory. Electrical systems models.
Lectures and computer exercises in the classroom.
Methods and tools for dynamic system simulation. Static optimization. Linear and integer programming. State-space representation of dynamic systems. Dynamic optimization. Optimal control and dynamic programming. Predictive control. Optimal management of energy systems.

Lectures and computer exercises in the classroom.
All class schedules are posted on the EasyAcademy portal.
Oral examination, including a discussion of the reports of the computer classworks.
The exam will be the objective of checking and evaluating the capability of the students to state and solve simple optimization and control problems, analogous to those presented during the lectures.
