    OVERVIEW

    The module RIABILITAZIONE IN REUMATOLOGIA develops a thorough understanding of the main diseases of the Locomotive Apparatus , in Rheumatology; their early diagnosis and treatment can help slow the progression of the disease.

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    The unit RIABILITAZIONE IN REUMATOLOGIA aims to provide students with the knowledge of the patient's healing process, to define an appropriate rehabilitation action according to the biomedical and psycho-social model. As with all areas of physiotherapy, the assessment is very important; then, with exercise prescription and other therapies, physiotherapy improves and prevents the Rheumatic disorders of the musculoskeletal system

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Besides medication, various other types of treatments may be prescribed for rheumatic disease, including:

    • Specific exercise regimes to increase muscle strength and joint flexibility
    • Physical therapy
    • Occupational therapy
    • Hot and cold therapy
    • Splints, braces, and assistive devices to support weak joints
    • Relaxation therapy
    • Surgery (particular for arthritis)

    TEACHING METHODS

    Lectures (10 hours).

    Lectures are performed in all the teaching location by owners teachers and are explained with slides and videos. The Students/Teachers percentage report allows a direct comparison and an use of collaborative methodology, discussion about rehabilitation and working groups.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    REHABILITATION FOR RHEUMATIC CONDITIONS

    - Functional Evaluation and Rehabilitative Approach to Rheumatics: Ratio of the patient's state of health with rheumatic problems according to ICF and load capacity.

    - Rehabilitation management of the main impairment conditions in the patient.

    - The planning of physiotherapy intervention

    - Physiotherapy in hip and knee arthrosis

    - Physiotherapy and Osteoporosis

    - Evaluation and treatment of neck pain

    - Evaluation and treatment of lumbar pain

     - Evaluation and treatment of thoracic pain

    - Extra-articular rheumatism and Physiotherapy

    - Physiotherapy and CRPS I

    - Rehabilitation in rheumatoid arthritis

    - Rehabilitative intervention in nervous compression syndromes

    The slides used during lectures and other educational materials (such as in-depth tutorial, E-book) will be provided by teachers; they may also indicate books, articles and scientific journals.

    The notes taken during the lectures and material provided by teachers are sufficient for the exam.

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

    Oral interview; the oral examination will be mainly directed to ensure a proper understanding of the theory discussed in the course.

    Available 7 examination date.

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

    The assessment method is explained during the lessons.

    The exam consists of an oral interview based on the lectures and on the program, to evaluate knowledge and critical thinking of the student. The student have to prove his competence in scientific description of Rheumatic Physiotherapy.

    Pre-requisites: some knowledge on fundamentals of Anatomy and Pathology

    The exam can be supported if the student passed all the 1st year examinations.

     

    The exam is preliminary to the Tirocinio II (2nd year internship exam)
