The course analyses the functions of the sensory and motor systems. The various topics taken into account have the aim of understanding the physiological bases of somatic senses, vestibular system, spinal reflexes, voluntary movement, posture, balance and gait.
To know and deepen physiological knowledge of the lower limb.
The course will furnish to the students fundamental knowledge about the physiology of the sensory-motor system.
Teaching consists of theoretical “frontal” lessons for a total of 20 hours (2 CFUs)
Sensory systems: transduction and coding
Somatic senses: touch, thermoception and pain
Proprioception: physiology of muscle spindles and Golgi tendon organs. To understand the motor system: Spinal reflexes: strectch reflex, inverse myotatic reflex, withdrawal reflex
Voluntary movement: physiology of the motor cortex and motor learning
Cerebellum
Basal ganglia
Vestibular system
Posture and balance

Oral interview. The exam will last 20-30 minutes. It is based on 2/3 questions concerning the various topics of the program. During the exam the teacher will evaluate the student's ability to report on the topics discussed in the lessons.
Exposure clarity, connectivity, rigor, and communicative ability are valued. The teacher also evaluates the student's ability to perform critical analysis and links between the various contents discussed in the lesson. To overcome the test, it is necessary to obtain a passing grade evaluation for all the questions.
A lesson on spinal reflexes (Prof. Bove) is available online on aulaweb.
