    Engineering thermodynamics: Introduction to energy issue: renewable and not renewable resources, energy needs and availability, environmental impacts. Energy transfer by heat. Energy transfer by work. State functions. Thermodynamic transformations. Ideal gas law and gas mixtures. Internal energy. First law of thermodynamics. Energy balance for control volumes. Second law of thermodynamics. Reversible and irreversible processes. Entropy. Pure substance. Thermodynamic planes: (p, T), (p,v), (T,S) (H, S), (p, H). Carnot theorem and cycle (direct and reverse). Energy conversion efficiency. Brayton cycle. Rankine cycle. Internal combustion cycles. Refrigeration cycle. Reverse cycle machines: refrigerator and heat pump. Refrigerants.     ASSESSMENT METHODS

    The modality to check the achievement of expected learning outcomes consists in the evaluation conducted during the exam, as well as in the sharing of the results of exercises performed during the course.

    The written exam verifies the achievement of an adequate level of operational expertize such as to allow an effective practice in the field.

    The theoretical comprehension of the subject is verified through oral questions regarding the different topics taught during the course.
