MODULES This unit is a module of:
    TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB

    OVERVIEW

The course will consist of 45 hours of lessons dealing with topics related to seismic risk. The aim is to provide basic skills of seismic hazard, local seismic response, seismic microzonation, seismic monitoring, and post-earthquake emergency management.

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is designed to provide the fundamental principles of seismic hazard and risk mitigation. Basic concepts of seismology, earthquakes, and strong ground motion will be firstly presented to introduce procedures of deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard analysis. Subsequently, methods for ground response analysis will be discussed in order to provide insight into problems as site effects and seismic slope stability. The course will end presenting procedures and systems for seismic monitoring and earthquake early warning.

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to train the student on the theme of seismic risk. The goal is to create a figure with skills in:

    • seismic hazard
    • site response
    • regional seismic microzonization
    • post-earthquake emergency

    TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of lectures delivered through multimedia presentations.

Due to COVID19 emergency, lectures of the first semester will be carried out online by using Microsoft Teams. Video recording will be guaranteed. Conversely, practical activities will take place in laboratory (if possible), with multiple shifts if necessary. All laboratory activities will be carried out in compliance with the capacity limits of the laboratories and the distance required by current legislation following the emergency COVID19.

Please refer to AulaWeb for further informations about the measures for the prevention and management of the epidemiological emergency caused by Covid-19.

    EXAMS

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam consists of an oral test (3 questions on topics covered during the course). The exam is passed if the student has obtained a grade greater than or equal to 18.

Please refer to AulaWeb for further informations about the measures for the prevention and management of the epidemiological emergency caused by Covid-19.

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will focus on the topics covered during the lectures and will aim to assess the achievement of the appropriate level of knowledge. The ability to present the topics clearly and with correct terminology will also be evaluated. The degree of detail required for each topic will be provided during lectures.
