    OVERVIEW

    The course aims to present the main tools of international information between traditional journalism and new media, through an in-depth study of specific historical and thematic contexts. The drafting of a press review on agreed topical topics will facilitate the understanding of media mechanisms in the field of international relations.

    At the end of the course, the student is able to:

    • know the main tools of international information between traditional journalism and new media;
    • understand the media mechanisms in the field of international relations;
    • recognize, read and query information sources, grasping their reliability and identifying fake news.

    PREREQUISITES

    Knowledge of Italian language.

    TEACHING METHODS

    Lectures and discussions will alternate.

    The lectures will take place in a mixed way (face to face and online) and, in accordance with the rules for access to university adopted to counter the spread of the Covid pandemic, the lectures may possibly be held on Teams.

    The course is starting on 13 September with the following timetable:

    Monday 10-12 (aula 5), Wednesday 8-10 (aula 5), Friday 16-18 (online).

    To access, students must follow the rules indicated by the University:

    - reserve a seat in the classroom on the website https://easyacademy.unige.it/portalestudenti; when booking you will also be asked for a declaration of absence of symptoms and close contacts with positives;

    - access the spaces with Greenpass and equipped with a surgical mask, keeping the distance;

    - follow the instructions of the reception staff;

    - always keep the same place in the classroom with the mask on, frequently sanitize your hands, do not crowd into common areas and bathrooms.

    For those who cannot book a seat in the classroom, it is possible to follow the lessons through Teams, code: eg0e79i. The same code must be used for the Friday lectures.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    IThe course will be dedicated to the presentation and discussion of some specific aspects of international journalism, with extensive references to contemporary events. All the texts examined in class will be available to students in Aulaweb in pdf format and printable for examination. For this reason, registration with Aulaweb is mandatory from the first days of the course, even for non-attending students who will still be able to receive useful information for the preparation of the exam. Furthermore, Everyone will be invited to collaborate in the review «International Journalism», a writing space for the students of the course.
