History of Christianity is a discipline that presents the development of Christianity, of its ecclesiastic structures and its dogmas, with a special focus on the relations between philosophical knowledge and religious intuition.
Students will have a strong grasp of the historical development of Christianity from its origins to the 20th century and of its essential moments: the early Christian Church, the Councils of the 4th and 5th century, medieval Church, Reformation and Counter-Reformation, the Church in the Modern Age. Students will study a particularly meaningful period in the history of Christian Churches in order to understand their plurality and how they tend to unity.
The course goal is to present the characteristics and the lines of development of the main confessions of the Christian faith, in their structuring between East and West, between Roman Catholicism and the Reformed Churches. The general part of the study of the program requires to be combined by the in depht examination of the decisive moments of the Christian adventure in history. The discipline aims to increase the understanding of the religious genesis of those theoretical figures, who have animated the history of philosophy in the last two millennia.
A good aptitude for the study of history is required, and also an attitude of open-mindedness to the confrontation with the great religious perspectives, elaborated over the centuries.
The Lessons will hopefully be held in person, with the possibility of following remotely via the Teams Platform. In that case, the Access Code will be provided.
