    OVERVIEW

     The course  aims to outline the basic elements of the modern philosophies of history and their difference from the  ideas of History of the  ancient word

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Students will become aware of the basic features of modern philosophy of history (linear time vs. cyclic time, the idea of 'plenitude', christian eschatology and the idea of progress) through the study of critical monographies and relevant classics

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

    The aim of the course is:

    a) to introduce the basic cathegories of every modern philosophy of history by the introduction of  some historical monographies

    b) to verify by a critical reading  the presence  of these cathegories in some modern philosophical or religious Ccassical works

    c) to make the students able to an autonomus reflection on the monographies and  the classics in program

    the students (either who are taking the 6 CFU course  that who are taking the 9 CFU course)   then  will be able :

    1) to  show a adequate  knowledge of the monographies and classical works of the recommended reading//bibliography

    2) to have a critical understanding of the same texts

    3) to compare   one another the contents of  these text

    4) to elaborate some personal convinction  about the the content of the course

     

    PREREQUISITES

    There is a second year  course that required an elementary knowledge of moral philosophy and/or a minimum training in historical matters

    TEACHING METHODS

    oral lessons and critical  readings of classical texts by the teacher. The lesson wll be in classroom with the possibility for students to take the course in streaming (the codex  will be sent to registered students by aulaweb)

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    contents for student who are taking the 6-CFU course

    Modern individualism  facing the  rebellions against 'modernity'  through the critical discussion of some classical authors: Leopardi, De maistre and Spengler (6 CFU)

    contents for students who are taking the 9-CFU course

    the course will adress two main areas.

    1) basic features of modern philosophy of history  (the concept of cyclic time and the idea of 'plenitude', the concept of linear time and christian eschatology , modern individualism and the idea of progress (3 CFU)

    2) modern individualism  facing the rebellions against 'modernity of war through the critical discussion of some classical authors: Leopardi, De Maistre and Spengler. (6 CFU)

    An oral interwiew about all the texts present  in the recommended reding/bibliography

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

    During the oral intewiew the student must demostrate

    1) a complete  knowledge  of  all the texst in the recommended reading/biliography

    2) an adequate understanding of the same texts

    3) the capability to  compare one-another the content of theese texts

    4) the capability to elaborate some personal convinction  about the the content of the course
