    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Know the technological solutions for the construction of rotating machines both from the morphological and the functional point of view. Know how to define the preliminary design of rotating electric machines. Identify incipient fault conditions in electrical equipment.

    To provide the elements on the morphology of rotating electrical equipment for low and high voltage. To provide the elements for the preliminary sizing of rotating electric machines. Provide elements for the diagnostics of electromechanical components

    TEACHING METHODS

    45 hours lessons 8 calculus 19 pratical exercitations in laboratory

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    Recalls on stress and degradation of insulation systems. Recalls on the principles of operation of rotating electric machines. Dimensional relations for rotating electric machines. Main aspects of a project. Constants of rotating machinery.        

                   

    Rotating machines. Type and construction forms according to the principle of operation. Stators and rotors of the synchronous machines with salient poles. Morphology of the turbo-alternators. Air, hydrogen and demineralized water cooling systems. Hydrogen sealing systems. Notes on the classification of windings. Concentrated coils, concentrated coils distributed in slots, squirrel cage coils, open distributed coils, short-pitch coils. Outlines of fractional slots windings. Insulation systems for round wire, rectangular wires and preformed bars. Impregnation systems:  VI, VPI, GVPI and resin reach.

    Morphology and sizing of electrical cables for MV and HV. Cable junctions and terminations. Electrical field grading systems.

    Recalls on insulating systems and insulating materials. Proactive, preventive and predictive maintenance. Types of failure of transformers and rotating machines. Fault analysis and Ishikawa diagrams. Examples of detailed Ishikawa diagrams for different types of rotating machine failure. Conventional offline diagnostic techniques on insulation systems. Mechanical and electrical measures for bearing diagnostics in rotating machines. Online and offline diagnostic techniques related to stator and rotor windings of synchronous and asynchronous machines. Online and offline diagnostic techniques related to insulating systems of oil and cast resins transformers. The phenomenon of partial discharges. Measurement of partial discharges as a diagnostic tool for predictive maintenance. Low and high frequency partial discharge measurement systems for conducted and irradiated signals. Integration into the time and frequency domain. Design of the measurement impedance for quasi-integration. Analog and digital PD measurement systems. Analog signal analysis for defect detection. Data analysis in digital measurement systems. Statistical outlines. Data processing for defect detection with digital measuring systems. Defect classification and degree of hazard. Measurement systems in the case of inverter power supplies.
