The course deals with the topics relating to the hydrologic modelling with specific references to the frequency analysis of extreme events (storm and flood).
The course aims at improving the knowledge of the hydrologic modelling. Particular attention is given to the frequency analysis of extreme events (storm and flood). Furthermore the understanding of hydrological processes provided in the first-level course of Hydrology will be developed.
The course aims at improving the knowledge of the hydrologic modelling. Particular attention is given to the frequency analysis of extreme events (storm and flood). Furthermore the understanding of hydrological processes provided in the first-level course of Hydrology will be developed.
The lectures are organized in about 50 hours of theory including at least 10 hours of practice in order to deal with applied problems on the main topics of the course. The students will draw up a numerical exercise relating to the statistical analysis of the maximum rainfall depths for assigned duration. The exercise will be discussed during the oral examination.
The main contents of the course are the following:
PP Slides available on Aulaweb;
Chow V.T., Maidment D.R., Mays L.W., Applied hydrology, New York, McGraw-Hill, 1988.
Kottegoda N.T., Rosso R., Statistics, Probability, and Reliability for Civil and Environmental Engineers, New York, McGraw-Hill, 1997.
Moisello U., Idrologia tecnica, Medea, 2014.
Office hours: The office hours for students are scheduled according to the specific student requirement.
ILARIA GNECCO (President)
GIOVANNI BESIO
ANNA PALLA (President Substitute)
All class schedules are posted on the EasyAcademy portal.
Oral examination
The oral examination aims at testing the theoretic knowledge and the skill to solve applied problems. Furthermore the students have to discuss/illustrate the results of the exercise relating to the frequency analysis of the extreme events.
