## OVERVIEW

This unit provides an overwiew on the design process of motor yachts, focusing on high speed craft and relevant design issues.

## AIMS AND CONTENT

### LEARNING OUTCOMES

This units aims to complete the student skills in the naval architecture field through the study of advanced topics specifically concerning the preliminary phase of the design.

### AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

This unit aims to complete the student skills in the naval architecture field through the study of topics relevant to high speed craft, namely planing hull forms and surface piercing propellers.

### TEACHING METHODS

Tranditional lectures (about 46 hours) and practical excercise on the Savitsky method (about 6 hours).

### SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Definition of planing.

Resistance components of a planing craft.

Influence of the hull geometrical parameters on motion resistance.

Methods for the trim control of crafts.

Stepped hulls

Methods for the resistance prediction of a planing hull: systematic series, statistical methods, Savitsky method.

Cavitation and supercavitating propellers

Surface piercing propellers
