    AIMS AND CONTENT

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Know and describe: the concept of disease state and the main causes of cell and tissue damage; the body's reaction in response to damage: cellular adaptation processes, the innate, with the mechanisms of inflammation, and adaptive immune resposnse; the processes of regeneration / healing and repair
    The study will open the field to in-depth studies of some pathologies illustrated in the Physiopathology course.

    TEACHING METHODS

    The course is organized in lectures and deals with the various General pathology topics iillustrated by the teacher through powerpoint presentations that are shared with the students.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    General etiology, concept of cause and its characteristics.
    Intrinsic and extrinsic causes of disease: of a physical nature (e.g. Radiation, temperature), of a chemical nature (chemicals, poisons), and of biological nature (pathogens such as viruses and bacteria)
    Concepts of adaptation, damage, irreversible damage; regressive and progressive processes. Atrophies. Hypertrophy and hyperplasia. Cell death: necrosis and apoptosis.
    Innate immunity: cells, molecules and mechanisms of the innate immune response, local and systemic inflammation, acute and chronic, variants of acute inflammation.
    Adaptive immunity: maturation and functional characteristics of T and B lymphocytes. Presentation of the antigen and T-B interaction
    Concepts of regeneration and repair. Wound healing: first and second intention. Fracture healing. Complications

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

    The exam consists of an oral test and takes place together with the other teachers of the integrated course

    The end-of-course exam aims to evaluate the achievement of the educational objectives of the course. The exams take place on the dates indicated in the calendar. The grade is assigned as a weighted average. The teacher verifies the achievement of the educational objectives by asking diversified questions relating to the program actually carried out during the lesson hours. When the educational objectives have not been achieved, the student is invited to better verify his knowledge and to take the exam again in its entirety. There are no student reception hours, but students can contact the teacher by email in order to make an appointment for further explanations.

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

    Verification of learning takes place only through the final exam which aims to verify the actual acquisition, by the student, of the expected learning outcomes. In order to pass the exam, with a score of not less than 18/30, the student must demonstrate that they know and connect the topics covered during the course

    The following contribute to the final mark expressed out of thirty:

    - Ability to deal with the requested topics in a transversal and critical manner;

    - Correctness, clarity, synthesis and fluidity of presentation;

    - Mastery of the subject;

    - Adoption of appropriate terminology

    The mark of 30/30 with possible honors will be awarded when the knowledge / skills of the subject are excellent.
