PRESENTAZIONE

The module deals with fundamentals and advanced concepts of the analytical and computational mechanical modeling of materials and structures for the assessment of existing buildings and the analysis of masonry and reinforced concrete buildings.

Mechanical modeling of materials and structures for the assessment of existing buildings. Fundamentals in structural modeling and analysis of masonry and reinforced concrete buildings. Basics of computational modeling of existing buildings with computational laboratory activities

PROGRAMMA/CONTENUTO

Sub-Module 1: Mechanical modelling of materials and structures (Material anisotropy; Introduction to mechanics of composite materials; Failure criteria for orthotropic materials)

Sub-Module 2: Introduction to the course module and to the finite element modeling (Direct stiffness method: plane bar element and plane truss; Variational formulation of finite elements: shape functions for bar, beam, plane stress elements;  Finite element modeling: modeling, mesh, loads, boundary conditions, convergence requirements; Introduction to SAP2000; Lab sessions: frame; plane stress problem)

Sub-Module 3: Fundamentals in structural modelling and analysis of masonry structures (Masonry material and buildings, Elastic and Elastic-Plastic No tensile-resistant model; Mechanical behavior of compressed masonry; Constitutive modelling of biaxial stressed periodic masonry; Masonry Arches; Out-of plane collapse of masonry panels; In plane-collapse of masonry panels)
