This module includes an introduction to Early English (from Old English to Early Modern English) and a practical English language course at the C1.2 level.
L’insegnamento si propone di approfondire lo studio teorico della lingua e della linguistica inglese con particolare riferimento allo sviluppo storico e culturale, e di sviluppare la competenza linguistica ad un livello avanzato, tra il livello C1 e il livello C2 del "Quadro Comune Europeo di Riferimento per la conoscenza delle Lingue".
This module aims to
- provide students with a basic knowledge of the history of English from Old English to Early Moderrn English;
- provide students with a basic knowledge of Old English;
- bring students to the C1.2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The linguistics module is made up of weekly lectures (3 hours a week over 10 weeks in the second semester).
The practical module is made up of weekly classes (4 hours a week over 20 weeks, i.e. 10 weeks per semester).
English Language I (LM) is divided into two parts, a one-semester linguistics module ("modulo teorico") and a two-semester practical module ("modulo pratico" or "esercitazioni" o "lettorato").
The linguistics module ("modulo teorico") is an introduction to the History of English from Old English to Early Modern English. The practical language module aims to bring students to the C1.2 (upper end of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages C1 level). Each component ("modulo pratico" and "modulo teorico") is assessed separately. The practical module is assessed at the end of the second semester through a written exam paper (grammar, vocabulary, listening, and writing). The linguistics module is assessed through a written exam paper at the end of the second semester.
The final mark is calculated as follows:
50% (of the overall mark) is the practical part.
50% (of the overall mark) is the theory part.
Attendance is strongly recommended.
