    PRESENTAZIONE

    OVERVIEW: This is a course of 30 hrs. duration during which time I shall seek to expand the students' ability in the understanding of scientific texts of all kinds. This is so that they will be in a better position to recognize the style and grammatical  structures used in this particular linguistic domain of the English language.

    OBIETTIVI FORMATIVI

    The teaching is aimed at increasing the student’s capacity in the understanding and processing of the English language used in scientific articles. This is to be achieved via using single and group-work strategies in research on the internet for synonymous word-meaning, question/answer procedures and basic summarizing exercises.

    To create a better skill performance level in contextual/ collocation situations, the nuances of English vocabulary used in scientific texts.

    MODALITA' DIDATTICHE

    THE COURSE WILL BE ENHANCED BY REGULAR GRAMMATICAL LESSONS IN THE LINGUISTIC DOMAINS FREQUENTLY ENCOUNTERED IN THE CHOSEN ARTICLES, PLUS STANDARD ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING TO GUARENTEE STUDENT CONFIDENCE WITH THE LANGUAGE ITSELF.

    PROGRAMMA/CONTENUTO

     A compilation of scientific reading passages taken from various sources to be referred to during lessons, projected onto a screen and made also available on the students' aulaweb site for self-consultation.

    TESTI/BIBLIOGRAFIA

    Scientific American, New Scientist, plus any manner of newspaper articles used in the British/American press which are widely available on the internet.

    MODALITA' DI ACCERTAMENTO

    THIS OBJECTIVE IS TO BE APPROACHED BY USING SINGLE AND GROUPWORK STRATEGIES IN RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET FOR SYNONYMOUS WORD/PHRASE MEANING, QUESTION/ANSWER PROCEDURES, AND BASIC SUMMARISING EXERCISES.

     

    IMPORTANT POINT: Students who pass the final test to my course will be able to use the qualification as a proof of performance level B2 CEFR (Central European Framework Reference) .
