Why

The Courses of Study in Electrical Engineering originated as a transformation of the former Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, aimed primarily at the study of electrical energy, which had a great tradition in Genoa.

The Bachelor's and Master's Degree Courses in Electrical Engineering have extended cultural coverage not only to the field of energy but also to issues of industrial automation, environmental assessment, transportation, and intelligent mobility, presenting themselves as broad-spectrum courses of study, culturally located between the areas of industry and information.

Electrical Engineering therefore has a significant projection on innovation and the future, involving highly topical technical and scientific topics concerning energy in all its forms. We cover topics such as renewable and conventional energy, automation, robotics, Information & Communication Technology (ICT) applications, smartgrids, nanotechnology and materials, power electronics, drives, systems, modeling and computational tools, reliability, compatibility and sustainability, land and sea transport and mobility, smart cities, and energy efficiency. Of great importance in Genoa are applications for the power and energy industry and for the electric propulsion of large ships and their on-board power supply.

What will you study

The course provides highly flexible training in the areas of industry, automation, and transportation. We cover design and management: renewable energy, computer applications, smart grid, smart city, nanotechnology, electronics and drives, electrical systems, reliability and sustainability, ground and on-board mobility, and energy efficiency.

The first year is aimed at strengthening mathematical, physical, chemical, and computer science foundations.
The second year consolidates physical, mechanical and electronic skills.
In thethird year characterizing courses in electrical engineering such as electrical systems, electrical machines and measurements, automation and laboratories are addressed.

Training integrates theoretical classroom lectures with tutorials, expert seminars, and hands-on experience in departmental laboratories: electrical measurements and machines, electronics, electrical systems, and electrical engineering technologies and materials. Technical visits to plants, research centers and technology companies are conducted, as well as internships abroad (Erasmus).

After graduation

The ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING graduate

.

Who is it?

The graduate degree in Electrical Engineering (SP-CL-EI) aims to train professional figures immediately employable in the world of work, with a particular propensity for the advanced industrial context.

Thanks to the versatility of its skills, the graduate is able to effectively propose itself for both design and process management requirements, in the operational areas of construction and supervision of components and systems involving electrical energy.

The course prepares for the professions of:

  • Junior electrical engineers
  • Junior industrial automation engineers

What do you do?

The main employment outlets are in the industrial and manufacturing fields, where the graduate works in design, management and operations roles.

The electrical engineer plays a priority role in engineering companies, where he or she may also be employed in process coordination and management activities. A similar function is frequently held in service companies, in the context of energy and significant infrastructure management, as well as in the transportation sector.

In particular, he is involved in:

  • design and production in the manufacturing industry, electrical and non-electrical
  • design and production in the electric power generation and distribution industry
  • design and production in the plant engineering and automation industry of all kinds
  • freelance services and entrepreneurial, managerial and technical-organizational initiatives.
  • .

Where does he work?

The course gives significant and rapid professional outlets in:

  • national and international companies
  • plant, automation, electrical and power electronic systems industries
  • engineering companies for the design of technological and transportation systems
  • public administration and research.

Do you want to pursue further education?

After earning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering you can continue your studies with a master's degree, its natural continuation.
