The course, through a dialogue made up of studies, research, meetings and practical experience, provides the necessary skills for those who choose to try their hand at the modern challenges of transportation, typical of the maritime-port and transportation-multimodal-logistics sectors. What will you study The course trains experts in economics, regulations, business and operational techniques, who can work in companies involved in maritime and multimodal transportation of goods and people, buying and selling and management of ships, port services, cruises, logistics operations, maritime and transportation insurance, maritime brokerage, acquisition and shipment of goods, and so on. Provides face-to-face and laboratory lectures - some in English -, classroom testimonials from leading industry players, and participation in seminars and workshops. The curriculum includes an international experience in Barcelona and one on board a ship at sea. Visits to port terminals and other logistics facilities are scheduled. Applied economics The teachings of this area study the founding characteristics of the economy of maritime-port regions, the ports-labor-economy relationship, and the role of transportation infrastructure, both with respect to the accessibility of territories and as key nodes through which the network of international trade is realized. These issues are addressed from a theoretical perspective and through the analysis of case studies. Management of maritime-port enterprises In this area, the evolution of competitive and corporate strategies of shipowning companies (cargo: liner and tramp; ferries and cruises), terminal-port companies and Port Authorities are examined from a technical-business perspective. Strategic paths are framed in the context of transformations in international scenarios, transportation systems and respective cargo and passenger market segments. The essentials of business decisions and certain business functions such as production, marketing, finance, and management control are explored. Decision-making techniques and problem solving The objective of these courses is to teach the tools and methods of management science today needed to cope with the complex planning and management problems of maritime transportation of goods and people, with particular reference to marine terminals. The learning path involves the development of case study models using optimization and simulation software, spreadsheets, and data analysis techniques with statistical software. Maritime navigation and transportation regulations In this area, we start with an examination of the basic rules governing international, EU and national maritime navigation, the use of ships and the management of port facilities, and then delve into topics such as the powers of states in different sea areas, marine pollution, safety of navigation, maritime insurance, the carrier's liability regime in the carriage of goods and persons by sea, cruises and tourist voyages, and the regulation of maritime contracts.
