The biomedical laboratory health technician

Who is he/she?

The Biomedical Laboratory Health Technician is a health professional defined by the Ministry of Health Ministerial Decree September 26, 1994, No. 745 as amended. He/she carries out analytical and research laboratory activities related to biomedical and biotechnological analysis, particularly biochemistry, microbiology and virology, pharmacotoxicology, immunology, clinical pathology, immunohematology, hematology, cytology and histopathology.

What does he/she do?

He/she carries out his/her activity with professional technical autonomy in direct collaboration with the laboratory staff in charge of the different operational responsibilities to which he/she belongs. In particular:

  • is responsible for the correct fulfillment of analytical procedures in application of the work protocols defined by the managers in charge
  • .
  • verifies the correspondence of the services provided to the indicators and standards predefined by the facility manager
  • checks and verifies the proper functioning of the equipment used
  • provides routine maintenance and possible elimination of minor inconveniences
  • participates in the planning and organization of work within the facility in which he/she works
  • contributes to the training of support staff

Where does he/she work?

The Biomedical Laboratory Health Technician works in public and private laboratory facilities, in a dependent or freelance relationship. Specifically:

  • in hospital and non-hospital laboratories belonging to the National Health Service and in similar private facilities and of Scientific Hospitalization and Treatment Institutes (IRCCS)
  • .
  • in quality control laboratories in the biomedical field and the pharmaceutical industry
  • in the analysis and control laboratories of the Regional Agencies of Environmental Prevention and Protection
  • in manufacturing industries and marketing agencies operating in the field of laboratory diagnostics
  • in university and non-university research laboratories in the biomedical field
  • in the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institutes of the Regions, assigned to the control and prevention of diseases of animal origin and to the hygienic and sanitary supervision of food also of animal origin
