Technical Directions.

Photographic/audiovisual filming

Read the regulations of the accreditation procedure for conducting photographic and/or audiovisual filming activities inside university buildings (effective 06/28/2013).

Steps of preparation

To prepare your paper you must:

  1. request the referring lecturer and define the topic:you must contact the lecturer with whom you will do your work, always keeping in mind the deadline for registering for the final exam
  2. confirm the application online:you can only register if you have no exams due
  3. research the bibliography and study the state of the art: on the basis of the directions agreed with the lecturer, you must delve into the chosen topic
  4. write the table of contents: having retrieved and studied the material you must structure an outline outline to discuss with the lecturer
  5. write the text: after approval of the table of contents you must:
    • proceed independently to write your paper
    • read and possibly complete the bibliographic research
    • pay particular attention to the correctness of the text in Italian
    • write between 30 and 70 pages.

Structure of the paper

The structure of the paper must be agreed with your lecturer.

Here are, however, some broad guidelines:

  • frontispiece:you may want to use this template
  • index: it can be two-level (chapters and paragraphs) or three-level (with the addition of sub-paragraphs) and should immediately bring out the content and logical consequentiality of the structuring of the paper
  • abstract (in Italian and English): it must be:
    • short
    • between 150 and 200 words
    • must explain the subject of the paper
    • clarify the rationale behind the choice of topic
    • describe in extreme summary the research method followed and the results obtained
  • chapters:we suggest you use short periods, use the impersonal form, rich vocabulary, and explain any new concepts or terms
  • conclusions:they should be clear and concise, summarize the results of the work, and hint at future developments in the topic.


If the speaker does not give you specific directions, format the text following these standard carratteristics:

  • margins:right and left, bottom and top 3 cm
  • text alignment:justified
  • page numbers:bottom right
  • text format:Times New Roman 12 font,1.5 line spacing, first line indent 1 cm
  • footnote format:TimesNew Roman 10 font, single line spacing, no indentation
  • format of bibliography:Times New Roman12 font, single line spacing, indentation protruding 1 cm
  • character:bold only for chapter titles, paragraphs, sub-paragraphs, and for numbers and captioning of charts and tables
  • numbers:Roman numerals for chapters and Arabic numerals for paragraphs and sub-paragraphs
  • notes:at the end of the page and not at the end of the chapter, with numbering starting from 1 in each new chapter.

Graphs and tables

If you have to include graphs and tables in your paper, remember:

  • they must be named with the title at the top
  • they must be labeled with a sequential number from which you can tell their placement within the different chapters.
    For example: Tab. 2.3 (the third table in Ch. 2), Graph. 5.1 (the first graph in Ch. 5), Fig. 1.1 (the first figure in Ch. 1)
  • should have the source indication at the bottom unless they are graphs and tables that you have personally prepared.
    For example: Source: Istat, 2003: p. 235.


With regard to citations you should keep in mind that:

  • in the body of the text, sources should be cited by calling out, in parentheses, the author's last name and the year of publication. Example: Income is understood as a change in the wealth conferred by the owners, caused by the conduct of business management (Zappa, 1951)
  • If it is deemed appropriate to quote a short passage literally, it should be placed in quotation marks and should indicate the page from which it was taken. Example: It seems useful to recall what Torre (2002: p. 93) argues: "an effective implementation of flexibility etc."
  • literal quotations are justified only in cases where it is really necessary to recall a thought in its original formulation or when you want to give particular emphasis to a certain statement


At the end of the thesis you should include an alphabetical list of the bibliography reviewed and cited in your paper.

Anti plagiarism check

N.B Remember to use sources properly, citing them both in the text and in the final bibliography and always quote third-party words in quotation marks. Remember that there are both criminal and disciplinary legal consequences for plagiarism.

To combat the misuse of sources available on the Web the texts of final papers are subjected to an anti-plagiarism check using specific software.

If your lecturer feels that you have not used sources correctly, he or she may ask you to revise your final paper and possibly postpone the degree exam to a later session.

You can make, with the consent of the lecturer, a presentation to be video-projected during the graduation session.
