For the purposes of admission to the Master's degree course, students who meet the curricular requirements must successfully take a test to verify their personal preparation. The test will be held in front of a Commission appointed by the CCS and composed of teachers belonging to the CCS, it will take the form of a written test or public interview and will be aimed at ascertaining the general preparation of the student with particular reference to the knowledge of fundamental notions in the basic subjects (such as, for example, mathematics and physics), as well as applied and professional aspects related to engineering topics. For the purposes of assessing the student, the Examination Committee also takes into account the curriculum obtained in the three-year degree course. The outcome of the test is marked 'passed' or 'failed' only. The announcement for admission to the Master's degree courses of the Polytechnic School and the website of the Master's degree course indicate: the composition of the Examination Board, the test procedures, the place and date, the subjects to be examined, the criteria for assessing candidates.

English language knowledge: English language knowledge of level B2 or higher is verified by certification in the student's possession, or, in the absence of this, by passing the B2 test administered by the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo. The recognised certifications are those listed on the University website at https://clat.unige.it/en/CertificazioniRiconosciute. The language proficiency requirement is also met if the student holds a degree in English, to be certified by an official document or letter from the university that awarded the degree, showing that the studies were carried out in English. If none of the above conditions are met, language knowledge must be verified during the personal preparation test by the relevant Examination Board. In the latter case, the ability to use the English language fluently is also the subject of the personal preparation test.

For students of non-EU nationality, with foreign residence and qualification, the application procedure for the purpose of verifying eligibility for a Master's degree course in English must go through a dedicated web portal, selected by the University and adequately publicised. Following the uploading of documents to the portal, a check is carried out to ensure that they are complete. Candidates who pass this check move on to the next stage, which concerns the assessment of qualifications and the final evaluation of the candidate, after which the student will be deemed eligible, conditionally eligible (allocation of bridging careers) or ineligible.
