The sea and related aspects interact with the typical approach of geographical analysis and in particular with that of economic geography. In fact, it constitutes a crossroads between the spatial and the economic method: in essence, the geographical investigation aims to identify the reasons for the choices related to the territorial location of the economic production and service activities. In particular in the case of the sea, to those related to subsoil and surface resources.
The course aims to provide specialist knowledge for the analysis of the interactions between tourism and the economy with a view to the transformation of the territory by tourism activities. In addition to the traditional types, the new types of tourism are being examined in relation to the changes in the behaviour and tastes of tourists and the ways in which they can enjoy their holidays.
The educational objective of the course is to make people understand the importance of the "sea resource" for the ecological, social and economic balance of the planet. The declination is obviously above all on a national scale (with an approach also at a European level) and a regional one in particular, as far as the tourism part is concerned. Learning must allow students to identify, analyze, from the point of view of economic geography, and outline the lines of possible evolution and use of the sea resource, in particular as regards tourism, in relation to the triple sustainability objectives mentioned.

The course is carried out with face-to-face lessons possibly integrated by seminar and / or group work.
The logical articulation of the course includes a first part dedicated to the study of some major topics related to the framework and perspective of economic geography, in particular on the state of "our" world, on the analysis of the paradigm of sustainable development and on the development policies at various geographical scales. The second part opens the focus dedicated to the sea, in its aspects of geographical analysis, focusing on the aspects of the (sustainable) use of its resources, surface and seabed. In the third part, the economic, environmental and social dimensions deriving from sea tourism are taken into consideration, among which beach tourism, yachting and sea sports stand out.
The course deals with topics in line with the objectives of the global Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030, in particular:

ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY: SEA RESOURCES AND TOURISM
The exam is carried out in oral form.
The exam will allow to evaluate the mastery and deepening of knowledge, the ability to use the skills developed. The evaluation criteria are: the quality of the exposition, the correct use of the appropriate vocabulary, the capacity for critical analysis, also on possible cases discussed. The students who will create any seminar papers will also be evaluated on the quality of the paper itself as regards the content and formal aspects
