Starting with the Rome Charter for Maritime Heritage, signed in 2007, a multidisciplinary approach will be developed to all that is considered to be the "maritime cultural heritage", both historical and monumental, floating and submerged.
The aim of the course is to narrate the history of maritime human activities through the objects, artefacts and works of art that were produced and used during the centuries between the Middle Ages and the contemporary age. It also aims to analyse the ways in which these objects have become global cultural heritage.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to analyse, on the basis of a personal in-depth study of the history of one or more objects, the musealisation of these objects related to maritime history.
Good knowledge of history and art history
The course will be structured around lectures, thematic seminars and field research.
Classes are held in person.
After a first preliminary part aimed at providing students with a set of basics, the course will be structured around a historical path made up of objects, artifacts and works of art that have marked the maritime history of the Mediterranean, with particular reference to the modern age. For female students and attending students, an in-depth research paper, on one or more of the topics covered in class, will be provided, elaborated on the basis of an original research agreed with the lecturer and which will be displayed in class.
For students and frequent students there will be an additional reading to be determined with the lecturer.
