The module of Fluid Mechanics provides the basis of fluid streams motion and the tools for the design and verification of simple hydraulic systems. These basis allow to address more complex hydraulic problems.
Lectures and practice
Fluid definition and its properties, the continuous fluid. Pressure in fluids at rest, statics cardinal equations, Fluid statics: hydrostatic force on plane and curved surfaces. Tension state in a fluid in motion, the stress tensor. Dimensional analysis and Buckingham theorem. Description of fluid motion and the principles of fluid mechanics. The stream flows: definition and characteristics. Conservation of mass and momentum in the global form. Conservation of mass and momentum of a stream. Pipe flows. Moody diagram, minor and frictional head losses in a system. Problems with some simple systems. Ideal fluid scheme and Bernoulli's theorem. Hints of hydraulic machines.
