The course provides the basic knowledge on the dynamics of compressible fluids and the applied know-how relevant for aeronautical and propulsion applications.
Theoretical and applied lectures
- Quasi-one-dimensional flow in variable-area ducts; nozzles and diffusers.
- Normal and oblique shock waves, expansion waves. Shock waves-boundary layer interaction.
- Unsteady wave motion: moving normal shock waves; method of characteristics for finite waves.
- Steady supersonic flow: theory and applications of the method of characteristics.
- Subsonic, transonic and supersonic flow on airfoils.
- Transonic and supersonic cascades for axial compressors and turbines.
