OVERVIEW

Space and Sovereignty in Russian Political Thought. Advanced seminar on the meaning and historical evolution of notions such as “sphere of influence”, “territorial integrity of the state”, “Russian world”, and “Eurasian space”. Oral presentations and final paper required.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Critical understanding of the main issues and historiographical debate on tsarist and soviet history. Development of methodological awareness through textual analysis.

TEACHING METHODS

The course is organized as a seminar and students are required to make oral presentations, participate in the discussion and write a final paper replacing the oral examination. Students not attending the seminar sessions must prepare one volume in the section b) of the bibliography and take the oral exam.
