After the analysis of the issues concerning the efficiency’s improvement of the manufacturing systems, the module on Computer Aided Production discusses the techniques to assess the performances of the production processes and plan the products manufacturing. Specifically the module provides the fundamentals to analyse the manufacturing processes, to plan the manufacturing process by using CAD-CAM, and to assess the cost in function of the technologies and process organization.
The course is held in the second semester.
Review of the evolution of manufacturing systems and their organization.
The measurement of manufacturing systems. System model for the manufacturing process. Economical parameters for the efficiency assessment of the manufacturing systems. Methods of evaluating investment alternatives. Production and product cost. Upper-bound and Lower-bound approaches for transfer lines. Assembly systems and line balancing. Demand and forecasting methods. Manufacturing process planning: definitions, technologies selection and routing. The routing sheet.
Review of machine tools automation, ISO 6983 standard. The standardization of the manufacturing process, ISO 14649 standard (Step NC). Computer Aided Manufacturing; functions, architecture and integration in the production process.
Manufacturing planning and control: planning hierarchy, MPS, MRP, MRP II. JIT approach. Manufacturing organizational models based on internet: Global Contract Manufacturing Networks, E-supply chain.
