AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course will furnish the means of formulating and solving macroscopic balances of material and heat, developing problem solving skills and becoming familiar with the process analysis of chemical engineering systems.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of theoretical lessons and practical exercises done in the classroom. In addition, educational visits as well as computer labs are foreseen.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Main contents: material and heat macroscopic balances on single units as well as on process plants (recycle, bypass and purge calculations); notes on momentum balances; importance of the diffusive fluxes in macroscopic balances on interfaces where reactions, phase changes or heat transfer occur; unsteady‑state and simultaneous balances; dimensional analysis and main dimensionless groups; examples of applications which integrate the knowledge of thermodynamics acquired in the first module; examples of analytical and numerical solutions of transport problems typical of the process engineering.
