SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The challenges of adaptation: novel and comic cinema
Since its birth the cinema has continued to draw his subjects to the novel. Then another phenomenon grows, the cinema comic album adaptation. The course is designed to read the transformations engendered by the transition from one medium to another. To do this we focus attention on the intrinsic narrative techniques the three mediums considered: the literary narration, bédéique and film. The works that will be analyzed are: the novel La Princesse de Clèves by Madame de Lafayette (1678) and its cinematographic transposition La belle personne by Christophe Honoré (2008); the graphic novel Lulu femme nue by Etienne Davodeau (2 volumes, 2008-2010) and the cinematographic transposition of Solveig Anspach (Lulu femme nue, 2014); the novel Zazie dans le Métro (1959) by Raymond Queneau, cinematographic transposition of Louis Malle (1960) and the graphic novel by Clément Oubrerie (2008).

TEXTS: all texts in programs (two novels, three albums, three movies) and all critical materials published in aulaweb.
The final list of critical readings will pubbliée on aulaweb at the end of the course.

WORK GROUP. A deepening course on reading will be offered to students attending courses assiduously. This depth study will take place during the course. The modalities of participation will be illustrated at the beginning of the course and will be distinguished on aulaweb.

INDIVIDUAL WORK. Each student will prepare an analysis of a work of his choice in order to identify the characteristics of adaptation. read grids and analysis will be published on aulaweb. Students should send their work on aulaweb at least two weeks before the exam date. This individual work will be discussed during the examination.
