The course is a 12-credits-course consisting of
- a theoretical module of 30 hours (held in the 2nd semester) in which basic facts of German syntax are presented and illustrated;
- an applied module of 40 hours dedicated to the development of oral and written competence in the German language;
-an applied module of 40 hours aiming to provide students with basic skills of German-Italian translation.
The goal of the theoretical module is to make students reflect on the organization of syntax in German.
At the end of the course students will be able to 1) identify the syntactic categories and functions , and 2) to analyze the structure of phrases and simple and complex sentences
The goal of the applied module is the attainment of instrumental competence of German corresponding to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The theoretical module will be in form of frontal lessons.
The applied modules will be in form of practical lessons.
Classes will be held partly in Italian and partly in German.
Topics covered in the theoretical module are as follows:
syntactic categories (classes of words, phrases ), syntactic functions, valency, regency, congruence, the structure of phrases, the structure of simple and complex sentences, the principle of structure dependency, the Topological Model of word order in German.

written or oral exam
As for the theoretical module students may choose between
a) a written examination (duration: 60 minutes), consisting of 16 multiple choice questions / completion tasks, which will be held in the 1st available date of the summer and the autumn session;
b) an oral examination (duration: 20 minutes), consisting in the presentation of a topic selected by the student, and in two questions selected by the examiner, which will be held in the 2nd available date of the summer and the autumn session.
In the February session there will only be an oral exam.
