OVERVIEW

Design and evaluate interventions requires to professionals of education and training peculiar modes of reasoning, mastery of technical languages and specific skills, ability to work with other figures. The course provides students with knowledge and skills for: needs analysis, design and evaluation of interventions in education field and social work and the opportunity to experience some techniques and tools under the supervision of the teacher.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main learning outcomes are: provide students with models for the analysis of social contexts of intervention, knowledge and technical skills relevant to design and evaluate of interventions in the education, training and social work; present to the students and make them experience some techniques and tools used in the design and evaluation of interventions in these areas.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures, presentation and critical discussion of case studies, group work under the supervision of the teacher.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course includes the discussion of various topics and direct experimentation by students of analytical and planning techniques commonly used in the design and evaluation of interventions in education and social field, both locally and in Europe.

- Social needs and Welfare: general concepts; needs analysis, problems and their causes;

- Training and social policies: general concepts and normative of reference. Education: EU 2020, Cohesion Funds and the European Social Fund, Operational Programme of Liguria Region. Social: Law  328/2000, Regional Law 12/2006, PSIR 2013-15 Liguria Region.

- Governance and participation in the design and evaluation of social and educational policies: governance and strategic planning; purposes and levels of stakeholder participation in the planning and evaluation of policies; meanings and functions of participation in evaluation: rights of citizenship and knowledge production

- Models, techniques and tools for the design of interventions: project cycle management, goal oriented project planning and logical framework; stakeholder analysis; analysis of the goals and objectives; analysis of the conditions and sustainability factors; definition of the objectively verifiable indicators and sources of verification; identification of resources and the estimates of expenditure; the construction of tables of activity and expense cards. the intervention monitoring systems;

- Design and conduct of evaluation research: the evaluation mandate, the objectives of the intervention and the analysis of the evaluation questions; assessment of resources and preliminary research design; the analysis of the semantic field and the construction of the indicators; allocation of values ​​of indicator systems; operational definitions and construction of research tools; data collection and analysis of results; evaluation report and support to use of the evaluation by the involved stakeholders.

Written and oral exam

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam is a prerequisite to access to oral exam. Through the written exam, the teacher verifies the acquisition by the student of the fundamental concepts covered in the teaching and the ability to relate to each other, the mastery of the knowledge and the technical language and competence in applying what she/he has learned in real problems. The oral exam is a written exam discussion.
