The course aims to provide the essential physico-chemical basis for the understanding of structure-property correlations in polymeric and metallic materials for their technological applications .
Classroom lessons
Thermoplastic polymeric and thermosetting materials, fibre and elastomers: mechanical and thermal characteristics. Paints and coatings.
Composite materials: physic, chemical and mechanical characteristics of the main compounds, matrix and reinforcements. Manufacturing and ageing (osmosis) technologic aspects.
Metal Materials: structure and microstructure properties, defeats, thermal properties and phase diagrams. Non-ferrous metals and their alloys: light alloy properties and characteristics. Iron and steel metallurgy: thermal treatments and mechanical properties. Electrochemical basic concepts: galvanic series and marine environment corrosion phenomena. Corrosion prevention and protection techniques.
