OVERVIEW

The laboratory activities are designed to promote the acquisition of critical skills useful to build up   a scientific perspective in teaching  life sciences in nursery and primary schools, with particular reference to the interaction between fundamental concepts and specific disciplinary objectives.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The laboratory will improve critical knowledge and skills aimed at building a proper scientific perspective in addressing issues related to life sciences, in the course of the future teaching of students.
The specific objectives of the two diferent school levels will be diversified  also following   the interaction with  students.

TEACHING METHODS

As the main approach the group work methods will be followed. Each activity will follow an introductory presentation with the help of audiovisual media provided by the teacher (movies, books, documents) or found on the web. As a result of the activity the students will produce  summary documents, reports and ppt presentations.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The work will consist of activities in group work or individual to explore topics and issues of greatest impact in building a scientific and interdisciplinary vision of the life sciences. Issues addressed in the activities will include: characteristics and  limits of life, structural and functional levels in the organization of life. Speciefis issues  will be related to human body organization and complexity. Particular attention will be given to specialistic terminology and scientific language. The topics will be afforded  according to the training objectives and based on their importance for the construction of programming paths and teaching relating to the two orders of reference schools . Accordingly, the laboratory is coordinated with the course of the Life Science Teaching.

Documents useful to develop the various topics will be made available on the website by the techer and by the students as well as the specific reports of activity.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The results of the group work will be presented to the techer and the calssroom during oral presentations (ppt) made at the end of each activity.
 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The presentations of the work by students will be useful  to check:


the development of specific skills that will help the student in the understanding of living systems in terms of organization and functioning;
the acquisition of  critical skills in interpreting biological issues;
the acquisitions of  autonomy of judgment and awareness about major biological themes,  especially those that have impacts in everyday life;
the degree of  understanding and utilize  specialized terminology and communication skills;
the self-study capacity even on complex topics
