The course aims at describing the epidemiology of chronic-degenerative diseases. These diseases are the main cause of death almost worldwide, and can also be particularly disabling. In this scenario, it is important to know the epidemiology of chronic-degenerative diseases, their control and prevention.
The main learning outcomes are: (i) understand hygiene objectives and tasks (preventive medicine, public health, community medicine); (ii) know fundamental measures in epidemiology, active and passive immunoprophylaxis, vaccine strategies and schedules; (iii) analyze the historical path of public health; (iv) analyze the historical path of health care with particular attention to disease prevention.
This Integrated Course is focused on the basic notions of Epidemiology, Hygiene and Preventive Medicine, and for "General Hygiene 2: Epidemiology and Prevention of Chronic Degenerative Diseases". In particular the coures is addressed to the concepts of chronic-degenerative diseases and know the socio-sanitary burden; the epidemiological aspects of chronic degenerative diseases in Europe and Italy with particular reference to cardiovascular diseases, dysmenabolism, overweight and obesity, neurological diseases, chronic respiratory diseases and tumors. A training course will be developed on the main risk factors for chronic-degenerative diseases and their possible prevention opportunities. The training course aims at deepening the role of health care practitioner as part of activities planned for the prevention of chronic-degenerative diseases
The didactic activities include frontal lessons and group work. The teacher will assist and support the students in group work activities.
General characteristics of chronic-degenerative diseases (non comunicable diseases). Epidemiological significance of chronic-degenerative diseases in developed countries. The main chronic-degenerative diseases present in Europe and Italy. Chronic degenerative pathologies: protein, lipid and glucid metabolism. Obesity and overweight. Cardiovascular diseases. Chronic-degenerative neurological diseases. Tumors: carcinogenic processes, epidemiology and prevention of major cancers in Italy. Chronic-degenerative disorders of the respiratory system: epidemiology, risk factors and prevention.
Teachers will provide the students with the material (material presented during lessons and in-depth material).

Compulsory written test. The test consists of a sequence of 30 quizzes, multiple response with 4 response options of which only one is correct. There is also an open question in which the student can answer briefly. To get through the exam you need to get enough (18/30). The exam rating ranges from 18 to 30 and praise (all correct answers and comprehensive open question). The written procedure was chosen to ensure the objectivity of the evaluation. This methodology can properly assess the achievement of the training objectives.
Written exam on the topics discussed in lesson. The teacher will provide slides (material presented during lessons and in-depth material) to students by inserting them into aulaweb unige.
