The course will explore a) the contributions of visual and filmic sociology to the analysis of social phenomena; b) the key role of images as object and social construction
The course aims at providing a whole array of conceptual and methodological tools in order to introduce students to social research, by particularly focusing on visual sociology
To develop a critical knowledge on the place of images in contemporary societies
To develop an introductory knowledge on filmic and visual methods applied to social theory and research
The course opts for a teaching method focused on participation, direct experience, knowledge co-production. The course will use films and images produced by the Laboratory for Visual Sociology
The course will explore possibilitues and the transformation involved by visual methodology in social description and interpretation in the following fields:
-urban studies
-migrations
-emprisonment
gender studies
