AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO)

Understanding the basic concepts of the environmental impact of the different classes of natural compounds and pollutants (metals, organic compounds), with particular regards to their sources, transport, effects and fates in soil, air and water. Some details concerning the environmental monitoring and the pollution control legislation will be given.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Atmosphere and atmospheric chemistry. Chemical reactions in the troposphere and in the stratosphere. Ozone layer. Chapman cycle; Air pollution chemistry . Atmospheric monitoring.

Chemistry of natural waters. Chemical features of the natural waters; chemical monitoring; waste waters.

Soils and sediment chemical characteristics. Chemical analysis of soils; principles of soil remediation.

Oral examination

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam consists of an oral test . The oral examination is always conducted by two faculty members and has a duration of at least 20 minutes. With these modes, the commission is able to verify with high accuracy the achievement of the educational objectives related to the program carried out during the course. When the educational objectives are not achieved, the student is invited to deepen his knowledge and to use any further explanation by the lecturer.
