AIMS AND CONTENT

TEACHING METHODS

Combination of traditional lectures (42 hours), scientific seminars given by invited scientist (4 hours), and classroom discussion of the scientific papers presented by each student (10 hours) , hands-on sessions in laboratory (8 hours). 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

•    Nanoscale phenomena and quantum structures: Schrodinger equation, potential well, tunnel effect
•    Surfaces and interfaces: surface energy, crystallography, physical and chemical adsorption
•    Surface and thin film characterization techniques
•    Microscopy techniques: X-ray, Scanning Electron (SEM), Transmission Electron (TEM), Scanning Probe (SPM)
•    Single molecule force spectroscopy techniques
•    Synthesis and properties of nanomaterials: nanoparticles, conductive polymers, carbon nanotubes, graphene and carbon derivatives
•    Nanodevices for controlled drug release, for biomedical imaging, nanobiosensors
