The course aims to explore the world of sport and its interaction with the society since the first civilizations of Mesopotamia to the contemporary age, in order to understand the educational value of sport in parallel with the socio-cultural context which is inserted in. The course will reflect on the sports’ relationship with politics and will examine the economic implications of contemporary sport.
The History of Sport, inserted in an introductory learning module to Physical Education is a necessary prerequisite to open the student’s horizon to the wide world of sports, from the knowledge of the sport as history presents it.
Combination of traditional lectures and classroom discussion.
