CODE 67452 ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 4 MEDICINA E CHIRURGIA 8745 (LM-41) - SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MED/42 TEACHING LOCATION SEMESTER 2° Semester OVERVIEW The course of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine aims to analyze the areas and intervention methodologies about the determinants of health (eg. diet, biological risk, environment, lifestyles, etc.). The aim is to provide students knowledges and instruments for the prevention and safety culture in the workplace required to future health professionals. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO) The University class has the following learning outcomes: to acquire specific knowledges and competences in the field of the hygiene applied to the "indoor" and "outdoor" environments, to the places of job, to the hygiene of the foods and the nutrition, to the community medicine, to the preventive medicine, rehabilitative and social medicine, to the epidemiology, to the public health, to the management in health, to the "risk management", to the planning organization management and sanitary evaluation, to the promotion of the health and the sanitary education. TEACHING METHODS Frontal lessons. SYLLABUS/CONTENT - Knowledge of the principal sources of infection. Relationships host /parasite; - Notification, quarantine measures, diagnostic investigation; - Sterilization, disinfection, sanification and disinfestation; - Active and passive immunoprophylaxis. Typologies of vaccines. Strategies of prevention. The vaccination schedule; - Chemoprophylaxis of infectious diseases; - Epidemiology and prevention of the diseases for way of transmission, the hospital-acquired infections, the diseases of the international traveller and the migrant ones, the chronic degenerative diseases, the atherosclerosis and of the ischemic heart disease, the cancers, the most frequent degenerative and metabolic diseases; - The prevention based on the tests of effectiveness, assessment of effectiveness of the preventive interventions; - Methodologies for planning, implementation and evaluation of health education; - Epidemiology and prevention of domestic and road accidents; - Natural Disasters and Heqalth Care Emergencies including the Bioterrorism; - Health and ecological effects caused by pollution, environmental monitoring and risk assessment; - Epidemiology and prevention of damage to health from the major air pollutants - Biological, physical and chemical risk factors in confined spaces; - Water intended for human consumption: knowledge, assessment and prevention of health risks; - Health hazards caused by removal and disposal of waste and wastewater arising from urban and industrial centers; - Identification and assessment of exposure and biological, physical and chemical risk in the workplace; - Prevention of health damage associated to the work environment; - Industrial hygiene: Doctor functions and jurisdiction of prevention and protection; - Food as a vehicle of pathogenic and/or toxic agents: infections, poisoning, intoxication; - Food safety. Methods of physical, chemical and microbiological control: falsification, adulteration, counterfeiting; food additives; - Clean-up methods of food preservation methods; - Nutritional hygiene; - Epidemiology and prevention of alcoholism; - Epidemiology and prevention of toxic-major and minor dependencies; - Epidemiology and prevention of smoking; - Identification of the relationship between need, demand and supply; - Identification of the offer of services for the global protection of the health of individuals, families and communities; - Preparation of unit and integrated care plans; - Forwarding of appropriate questions of health and social services; - Activating participation of individuals, families and communities to health protection; - Bases of listening, dialogue and support: from counseling to patient education; - Evaluation of the effectiveness of primary care interventions: application of the indications arising from the EBM; - Identification of methodological and practical issues that relate to the need for evidence of effectiveness in preventive practice; - Open to the multi-professional and interdisciplinary work to target projects; - Identification of methodologies for the hospital-community integration and for the actual use of the network of district services; - Evaluation of the results and outcomes of care; - The Service Charter as a pact between businesses and citizens; - Hospital Organization and territorial welfare principals. public and private health care; - Organization of home care in sheltered housing and other safeguards for the elderly patient; - General organization and relationships with the health services of specific services for recovering addicts, outcasts, misfits; - The company operating mechanisms: planning systems, management; business information systems; - Design and deployment of quality improvement projects in health services: from diagnosis to evaluation; - The evaluation of the quality of public and private health services: accreditation and certification.
