OVERVIEW

The student must learn the main anatomic and physiologic aspects of the Central Nervous system (CNS) and of the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) as well as the more important physio-pathological modification in case of neurologic diseases

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO)

The student must learn the principal functions and dysfunctions of Nervous System with particular attention to the motor disturbances in relation to the more frequent and severe neurologic diseases.

The lessons are centered on pyramidal, cortico-bulbar, extrapyramidal, sensitive, cerebellar, peripheral pathways. The student must know essential information on principal neurologic diseases (stroke, dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy, Brain tumors, Cranial trauma) and must be able to evaluate the impact of these diseases on his work related to motor activity.

TEACHING METHODS

The program will be based on traditional didactic methods (frontal lessons) with presentation of video-clips of emblematic disease cases.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

  • Motor function
  • Sensitive function
  • Stroke
  • Pathological involuntary movements
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Cerebral tumors

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

We suggest the use of the handbook: Neurologia di Fazio-Loeb (SEU) or “Neurologia” (Author J. Cambier, Ed. Masson).

The teachers insert the lesson slides on Aulaweb system

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral test

The student will be examined on all part of the program of the I.C.

Each teacher will evaluate the student on his part of program and will give his score; at the end of the test, the Coordinator will make the mean of the individual scores and give to the student the global score. The student may refuse the result. In this case, the student must repeat the test in another session. The coordinator inserts the questions and the scores on the electronic recording system as soon as possible.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The student must demonstrate a basic knowledge of the neurology and must be able to understand the normal and pathological function of the Nervous System.
