OVERVIEW

The integrated course “Behavioral Sciences and Scientific Methodology” includes six disciplinary modules (General Psychology; Special Education and Pedagogy; Clinic Statistics; Computer Science; History of Medicine and Bioethics) and provides the acquisition of 13 credits overall.

The course aims to provide the cognitive, methodological and behavioral tools in  the historical, statistical, informatic, psychological, pedagogical and ethical fields.

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide the cognitive, methodological and behavioral tools needed to understand and address the various dental issues in the historical, statistical, informatic, psychological, pedagogical and ethical fields.

The course is designed to acquire the knowledge of basic concepts and methods of scientific psychology and the knowledge of the functional mechanisms of main psychological processes underlying human behaviour; to analyse strategies and educational methods also in reference to odontostomatologic interventions with people with disabilities; to give the knowledge of the basic concepts for a precise and quick investigation of the resources in medical databases and understand the best way to their investigations; to introduce the student to the basics of statistical thinking and its application in practice; develop the critical ability to identify and evaluate the various ethical issues that characterize the patient's dental report.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons aided by presentations and exercises. The lectures will be interactive and students will be strongly encouraged to ask questions and insert comments.
