OVERVIEW

The health care worker has the task of preventing, promoting and educating the health in all areas of care and in the area; It places itself as a "bridge" between the physician and the family, between the hospital and the community, trying to solve the health and social problems and to address patients in the regional health service network.
It carries out the functions of protecting the rights of the elderly, enters the welfare network and contributes to the surveillance activities

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The has to learn the principles and possible applications of health education and health education campaigns as a tool for promoting health and preventing illness in the elderly. He will acquire the main methodologies used in health education campaigns. A particular attention will be reserved to the community targets. The peculiar aspects of the elderly and  the rehabilitative activity, the particular pathological pattern that occur more frequently in relation to aging. The comprehensice geriatric assessment and the geriatric team will be learnt.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO)

The student should learn about the Italian and regional demographic framework; The aging process of the human body and in particular social aging and the characteristics of successful aging; They will face the theoretical and practical significance of frailty, the main causes, and the clinical consequences; The characteristics of major geriatric syndromes; The problems of the old on the community and during the hospital stay, including the problems of hospital restraint and hospitalization issues. It is important the acquisition of good communication. A crucial element is the knowledge of the network of health regional services available, its best use to properly and effectively place the patient with disability, but also the patient old-old. It is also important to know of the most common multidimensional evaluation scales, the comprehensice geriatric assessment, the role of Geriatric Evaluation Unit and Geriatric Rehabilitation in elderly. The students will be able to address the clinical and social problems associated with dementia, the dying old patient, the patient at risk of suicide, and the patient who has been subjected to violence.

Demography of aging; Aging of organs and systems, social aging and successful aging; The concept of frailty and its clinical consequences; The most important geriatric syndromes, the frequent clinical diseases in the hospital with possible adverse events during hospital stay, the diseases of elderly in community; Communication with the old patient; The particular problems of old and old-old; Disability and evaluation tools; The geriatric evaluation Unit; the Issues related to dementia, chronic-degenerative diseases, violence (on oneself, or others), the risk of suicide and death
